Are You Addicted to Chapsticks?

I hear and see many people around me carrying their chapsticks wherever they go, because they say they are “addicted to it”. But let me tell you something: you are not addicted to chapstick. You are addicted to a chapstick ingredient. That's right: a ingredient.

Most lip products add wax to their ingredient list. Wax is a good idea because it doesn't absorb into the skin, so the product stays on your lips for a long time. Additionally, wax like beeswax may have beneficial properties, which can help heal chapped lips. But here's the thing: wax is an addictive ingredient. By staying on the skin, it creates a false idea for the body that that skin is moisterized, and then the body stops producing its natural oily barrier, because why would it? And then, naturally, the lip is no longer protected, the body no longer produces it, simply because it is receiving it from outside. And then it becomes a cycle of addiction: the more you use chapstick, the less your body produces its natural oily barrier and the more you need the chapstick. Get it?

So what to do in these cases: first, try to use chapstick only when your lips really need external protection, avoid using it randomly. And second: look for wax-free lip products in the list of ingredients – and I'll warn you: it's going to be difficult, most of them have wax!

When I was a lip product customer and I learned about it, I was very frustrated that I couldn't find a good option for my lips. That's why I decided to create a type of lip product that wouldn't have any wax at all, and that's why SeaShell offers LipGloss – just botanical oils, which will actually nourish your lips, protect them and heal them. But as there's no wax, you'll notice that it won't stay on your lips forever: it will absorb – and that's ok! This way, your lips will be able to enjoy the benefits of the oils, without stopping producing their own!

I hope I helped you with this week’s tips!
